A NEW WAY TO SHARE THE MOUNTAIN
MWCC proposes a $94 million privately financed cableway and visitor centre for everyone to enjoy kunanyi / Mount Wellington.
The proposal combines a sustainable way to reach the summit with $13 million of improved and enduring lookouts, shelter and visitor amenities. Entry into the Pinnacle Centre will be free, whether you arrive by cableway, roadway or on foot.

The proposed journey would rise above the forest and breathtaking escarpment, where sheltered spaces, lookouts and interpretation offer more ways to enjoy the landscape. For families, older visitors and people with limited mobility, equitable access has been a design cornerstone, to make a mountain visit equally memorable for all.

CLEANER, SMARTER.
SWAPPING CARBON FOR HYDRO
Over 2000 tonnes of carbon are emitted each and every year to haul 700,000+ people up to the summit and back. Rather than relying on the consumption of imported foreign fuels, our proposal can effortlessly move the bulk of visitors safely and quietly, using Tasmania's clean, green energy. More visitors using the cableway means less traffic on Pinnacle Road.
TAXPAYER TO TOURIST
SWITCHING THE PARK FUNDING MODEL
Ongoing Park conservation and management isn't cheap. Since 1904, Tasmanians have paid for the mountain's upkeep and visitor access. MWCC propose a royalty on cableway passengers, so that willing tourists can both enjoy a spectacular, memorable experience whilst supporting Park conservation. With this system, there is no need for a road entry fee.
